Submission Guidelines:

OOOOOO
O

Chrysalis submissions are open to trans, non-binary, intersex, two-spirit, agender, genderfluid, and otherwise gender-expansive people under the age of 19. Identity labels are always changing; we use these words to form a broad umbrella, not to keep people out. The submissions deadline for the first issue is June 15, 2025.

Although Chrysalis is a magazine by and for trans people, you do not have to write about trans stuff for the magazine. If you would like to write about something related to being trans, you are more than welcome to, but we want to read your writing about everything else too!

We are currently seeking submissions of visual art, poetry, fiction and nonfiction related to our first issue’s theme: Strength. More detailed prompts and guidelines for each genre on the corresponding pages.

In addition to themed submissions, Chrysalis also has a news section and an advice column! For the news section, we are looking for short, newspaper-style articles about local events affecting trans youth. For example, you might report on changes in school policy, a bill in the local legislature, a protest you went to, or a cool community event.

For the advice column, you can write to our resident advice-giver, the very wise Danny Lavery, telling him a little a bit about yourself and your situation and asking a clear advice question.  We won’t be able to publish or answer all the letters we get, but if we have resources or advice to offer you we may write back privately.

For nonfiction, fiction, news, and advice, you can submit one piece each issue. For poetry and art, you can submit up to three pieces. Its ok to submit pieces for multiple categories! If you are not sure what category your piece counts as, feel free to write to us and ask.
