For our nonfiction section, we are looking for writing about true events. This could be a personal essay, a story about something you or someone you know have experienced, a vivid description of a cool creature, a profile of a historical figure, a political manifesto, or any number of other things!
Just because nonfiction writing is about things that really happened, doesn’t mean it isn’t creative! Try and make your language detailed and specific, and think about how to structure your piece in a way that will catch and keep your readers’ interest.
If you’re not sure where to start, here are some prompts related to this issue’s theme: Strength.
-
Think about a time when you or someone you know had to be really strong. Tell us about what happened and how you found strength.
-
Tell us about a being in nature - plant, animal, fungi, or other entity - that represents strength
-
Introduce us to a famous person, a historical figure, or someone you love who taught you something about what it means to be strong
